Affirmative Action or affirmative a-hole, yup I’m talking Pat Buchanan
What ever Pat Buchanan’s reasons are for not liking Sonia Sotomayor or rather feeling she’s not qualified are his reasons, and most likely we’re not going to change his mind. And frankly this is America and he’s gets to say what he wants to say – no matter how ignorant, dated, out of context, racist, stupid it is. But his latest tirade on affirmative action… Holy SHI

To listen to Pat Buchanan talk about affirmative action takes me back to a time when there were soda counters at the local drug store and the guy that pumped your gas was… well pumping your gas and asking to check your oil. To listen to a white catholic male speak about how affirmative action is reverse discrimination frankly make me chuckle. After all what does this fat white male no about discrimination? What do I know about discrimination, answer – nothing! I too was born into a white catholic family and by the time I arrived we had already put a white Catholic in the White House (and oddly enough the first guy to use the term Affirmative Action), granted we shot him a few years later – but the damage had all ready been done.
Pat Buchanan says affirmative action is reverse discrimination. He says that it doesn’t give a white male a fair shake at jobs or schooling if a minority is going for the same slot. Well Chachie I guess I’ve go this to say about that – if it weren’t for spongy white guys much like yourself holding back a minority base on the tonal quality of their exterior or racism then there would have been no need for affirmative action. But alas that’s not the case, the fact is folks like Pat Buchanan may not wear the pointy white cap and gown but his actions talk the same actions as those who do. That’s why people through salad dressing on you… not that I agree with the actions, I don’t – but I do understand them:

It was JFK that first used the term affirmative action in 1961, it was basically his way of reinforcing something our “declaration” says – All men are created equal. Oddly enough it wasn’t until 1967 that Lydon Johnson included women into affirmative action. Yet Pat Buchanan can’t understand the need for something like this or turn it around to the point that he can say it’s discrimination and in the same breath say – “this country was built by white folks”. Yes it was built by white folks that enslaved other cultures to help – just saying. He called Sonia Sotomayor an affirmative action candidate that lacked actual credentials to be on the supreme court. Wow, every time this guy opens his pie hole I really do wish that someone would hit him with a pie. If we were to peel another layer of the onion back we would find that idiots like Pat Buchanan are all about affirmative action if it benefits the white male. What makes me say this, I’m glad you asked! Back in the day (Buchanan’s day) major school’s and universities would admit students based on a legacy program and not whether they had the mustard to cut it. Case in point George W. Bush got into Yale, we basically know that he was more a City College candidate. Affirmative Action in it’s most simplistic form – look to the movie Animal House, as they sit around picking their pledges and Kent Dorfman’s picture comes up to a rounding assault of boos and hisses, it’s not until Hoover stands up and reminds everyone that “He’s a Legacy” – this my friends is affirmative action without the label.

Do I think that occasionally as a result of affirmative action that someone more qualified won’t get the job, I guess it could happen. But do I know that there have been more qualified Latinos and African Americans jilted because of race and nationality – this fact is undeniable. So to Pat Buchanan, I call you a product of affirmative action because you’ve clearly taken the spot of someone who is more qualified than you – What the hell is up with that?
