There is something happening on the political front that is going to prove itself dangerous if we don’t get it reeled in. It’s not the kooks and whack job Tea Baggers that scream for birth certificates and think that running up the deficit just started happening in January of 2009. It’s not the political marital infidelities that keep popping up on both sides of the aisle. Nor is it the lack of impatience shown by constituents who give someone 1 year to try and undo the previous eight. No,
the problem as I see it is a double standard. One that allows you to spew what ever you want about the other folks party but when your party does it - it’s justified. Case in point that Alaskan Tea Baggin’ Sarah Palin. In one week this woman put the double standard wheel in full motion.
First – she tried to have Rahm Emanuel fired using the very popular social networking site Facebook. Much the same way teenage girls use to start rumors, Sarah Palin called for the resignation of the White House Chief of Staff. Why you might ask? For his inappropriate use of the word “retarded” when referring to some members of his own party. And in typical Rahm speak there was an expletive thrown in front of it for good measure. Palin who as you may know has a downs syndrome baby, and often refers to that child in her speeches and talks was clearly offended by the use of the word. So it would only stand to reason that when Rush Limbaugh said the following about Rahm Emanuel’s meeting: “Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards,” - “it’s a retard summit at the White House.”. Well as you can imagine Caribou Barbie fired up her Wifi because this offense would be strong enough to conjure up her Twitter account! But that’s not what happened at all, in fact when contacted a spokesman (not Palin) released a statement, “Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful.”. Not even a Myspace update? Yahoo messenger? Nothing! Nope instead we get for her on the national news saying Rush’s use of the word was in a satirical manner – there by making it okay. That’s double standard number one.
I need to say this – I am the sibling of a developmentally delayed sister. I don’t like the manner in which either Rahm or Rush used the word. But if I had to pick the more offense – hands down Rush!
Second – While being paid $100,000.00 to speak at a tea party convention our half a politician, the lady who quit as governor with a wrinkle in her nose and a wink for America mocked President Obama’s use of teleprompters. And just for further annoyance she tossed in a “how’s all that hopey changey stuff workin’ out fer ya”, proving to all of us once again that this puff of hair on pumps has no grasp of the English language. But the best part! At the very same convention she can be seen cheating! Yeah, for real! She’s asked the question, what are the top three things that need to be done when conservatives take back power?” She can’t answer without using “The Telepamler”, seriously she had the answers writing in the palm of her hand, and then was caught looking at them, much like a child cheating on a test. Do I have a problem that she referred to notes to give her answers – no. Is there a double standard that allows her to do it and Obama not too? I’m gonna go with yes.
So this would seem to be a reoccurring theme as of late. Time will only tell if it stays or goes (hopefully it goes). But if life has taught me anything if you’re going to make yourself look like an idiot – space it out a bit. But Sarah Palin must really believe that folks think its okay because she’s constantly talking to the choir and can’t see the rest of America cringe at the very thought of her opening her mouth. What the hell is up with that?
